About
I'm Shawna Yesovitch, founder of Hope Rising Counselling in Stouffville. I work with individuals and couples who are feeling confused, disconnected, or stuck in patterns that keep getting in the way of the relationships they want. Whether you're navigating a major life transition, trying to make sense of long-standing dynamics, or simply longing for deeper connection, I believe meaningful change can start with you, even if your partner isn't ready to join you.
My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based frameworks including Emotionally Focused Therapy, the Gottman Method, Internal Family Systems, and mindfulness-based approaches. I draw on attachment theory and somatic awareness to help you slow down, notice what's happening in your body and your patterns, and build the kind of self-understanding that actually shifts things. Sessions are non-judgmental and tailored to your pace. I'll often ask, 'Does that land for you?' because your experience guides where we go.
For individuals, I help you explore what's getting in the way of intimacy or fulfillment, strengthen emotional regulation, and build new ways of relating to yourself and others. For couples, we work together to improve communication, navigate transitions like parenthood or loss, rebuild trust, and create the kind of closeness you're both hoping for. I also offer Discernment Counselling for couples who aren't yet sure whether they want to work on the relationship.
I offer both in-person sessions at my Stouffville office and secure virtual sessions for those who prefer to connect from home. If you're wondering whether counselling is right for you, I'd love to connect for a free consultation. You don't have to have it all figured out. You just have to be willing to start.

Frequently asked questions
- What's your approach to working with Relationship issues?
- I’m interested in more than simply who said what or who is right. I want to understand what’s happening underneath the struggle and what each person is bringing into it. Together, we’ll get curious about the reactions, expectations and ways of relating that may be keeping you stuck. With more understanding comes more choice, and the opportunity to relate to yourself and each other in a different way.
- What if I know something needs to change, but I’m not sure what?
- You don’t need to have it all figured out before coming to counselling. Sometimes you just know that something feels off, you’re stuck in the same patterns, feeling disconnected, or not quite yourself. We can start there. I’ll help you slow things down, make sense of what’s happening, and get clearer about what you need and what you want to do with that understanding.
- What if I have a hard time talking about what I’m feeling?
- That’s completely okay. You don’t have to arrive knowing exactly what you’re feeling or how to put it into words. Part of our work can be slowing things down enough to notice what’s there. I’ll ask questions, offer observations, and help you make connections. I won’t tell you what you should feel or what your answers should be, we’ll figure it out together.
