Trauma and EMDR therapy for adults ready to heal what the past left behind, at your pace, no performing required.

About

I'm Marlo Drago, a Registered Social Worker based in Toronto, Ontario, offering trauma therapy for adults navigating anxiety, childhood trauma, emotional neglect, burnout, and complex PTSD. My approach draws on EMDR, somatic therapy, Polyvagal Theory, Internal Family Systems, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and bottom-up trauma treatment. But beyond the credentials and clinical frameworks, I bring something personal: I've walked through my own healing journey, and I know what it feels like to sit where you're sitting. That lived understanding shapes everything about how I work, the warmth in the room, the pace we move at, and the deep belief I hold that real change is possible for you.

Here, you are free to feel all of it. There might be swearing, laughing, crying, or something you can't quite name yet. All of it is welcome. No judgment, no rushing, no performing okayness for your therapist. We go at your pace. We pull back when things feel like too much, and move forward when your nervous system has the capacity to do so. You are always in the driver's seat.

I work with adults who have a strong inner critic, who overthink, who have walls up, who are exhausted from carrying their past like a weight attached to their body. Many of my clients have tried talk therapy before and still feel stuck. That makes complete sense: understanding your trauma and processing it are two different things. Trauma lives in the body and nervous system, not just the mind. Body-based approaches like EMDR, somatic therapy, and parts work go where the trauma actually lives, helping your nervous system finally register that it's over.

I specialize in childhood trauma, emotional neglect, mom burnout, complex PTSD, and the patterns that keep showing up in your relationships and parenting. If you're ready to understand yourself more deeply, break the family cycle, and find some actual relief, I'd love to connect. Book a free 15-minute consultation and we'll figure out together whether this is the right fit.

Frequently asked questions

What does a first session with you look like?
My 1st sessions are intake sessions that last 85minutes. Most people walk into a first session not knowing where to start, and that's completely fine. We'll spend that first hour getting a real picture of what's going on, what's brought you here, and what you're hoping is different on the other side of this. I'll ask questions, you'll talk as much or as little as feels okay, and there's no pressure to tell me everything at once. This session is about orientation, not excavation.
What's your approach to working with Trauma & PTSD?
You can spend years understanding why something happened to you and still feel it living in your body the same way it always has. That's the gap talk therapy alone often can't close. Insight tells you the story. Talk therapy is mostly about insight, EMDR is what needs to happen after we know the why. I use EMDR alongside somatic and polyvagal-informed approaches because trauma isn't just a memory, it's a nervous system that learned to protect you in a way that's now getting in your way. We move at a pace your system can actually tolerate, and we build safety before we touch anything hard. Nothing gets rushed here.
How quickly can I book a first appointment?
Reaching out is usually the hardest part, so once you do, I try to make the rest simple and you can book directly through the website. If you're not sure you're ready to commit to weekly sessions yet, that's okay too, we can talk it through first. However for the 1st 3 - 5 months I require a weekly or bi-weekly commitment as I find that help momentum of therapy and gaining the results you are seeking.
